the Perseids are this weekend. With it being a new moon there should be about 50-80 per hour.
Sept 1st is the Aurigids. Over 200/hr predicted!! Can only be seen on the West Coast
Head for the hills folks!!

Re: meteor shower season
Wed, August 8, 2007 - 6:49 AMup north - basically a loop. We'll cut over to highway 1 around Bodega Bay and lunch/tidepools/short hike just north of there, then set up camp around Manchester beach (just south of Mendocino). One of the 3 days we're there we'll drive up to Russian Gulch for the kids first long hike - inland to a sunken sea cave/waterfall that's supposed to be really cool. Our last night we'll be staying near Willits/Ukiah at a campground that is currently the kids favorite.... then an easy drive home down the 101. -

Wed, August 8, 2007 - 8:28 AMBodega and Manchester are great places I have been. Russian Gulch sounds neat.
Sugarloaf Ridge in Kenwood has an observatory on the campgrounds....
