Well, I've been there and back. Here is an abbreviated description:
Getting There: Train to San Francisco, Bus to Reno, 6 hour layover, C.R.E.S.T. Bus to June Lake Junction, hike into the Oh! Ridge Campground.
While there I did something one day and then rested the next. The altitude, 7650 ft., made me tired. Saw “Obsidian Dome”, you MUST see this. Went to Lee Vining and Mono Lake. Walked around June Lake into town just to see what's there.
Getting Back: hiked out to June Lake Junction, bus to Reno, 4 hour layover, Amtrak Bus/Train to San Francisco, and Train home.
All in all a fun week. No Bears just some fearless Golden Mantle Ground Squirrels. I've got to get lighter stuff.
