Re: Best city for super-nearby camping? Portland, Seattle, or Denver?
Mon, September 1, 2008 - 9:00 PMi have to say portland or seattle. not really much difference except a 2.5 hour drive. seattle is closer to british columbia which is super gorgeous.
denver is cool but i prefer the pacific northwest.... you can get to ocean, desert, rainforest, mountains, gorges, waterfalls and more within a 30 minute to 4 hour drive. -

Re: Best city for super-nearby camping? Portland, Seattle, or Denver?
Tue, September 2, 2008 - 10:00 AMhaving lived in all three places, i pick portland. more diversity, like jessica said (wet, dry, trees, mts, oceans, rivers, you name it), more predictably warmer weather overall, more mellower crowd (less city like than the other two). excellent camping in any direction you go. also, great variety of outdoor festivals/concerts/ etc. which promote camping in the great outdoors.
