I am planning a camping trip to the Mono Lake / Mammoth area in September. As I will be using public transit I'm restricted to the 395 / June Lake corridor between Lee Vining and Mammoth Lakes area.
I called the Inyo Visitor Center and was told that getting a site, which are all first come/first served, won't be a problem.
There are bus stops at or near, the 120/395 intersection, Lake view Lodge, Rush Creek Trail-head, June Mountain Ski Area, Shilo Inn, Mammoth Lakes P&R, Juniper Springs, and the Mammoth Mountain Inn. The person at the Visitor Center said that I could probably get the bus driver to stop at other camping areas.
Any suggestions?

Sat, August 1, 2009 - 12:02 AMWhat bus runs up 395? I've been looking for a ride from LA to Inyokern for a while, haven't been able to find anything. If there's a bus line up 395 I'd me much obliged for a URL. TIA - -

Re: Camping in the Eastern Sierra
Sat, August 1, 2009 - 1:24 PMThat would be the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority easternsierratransitauthority.com/wb/ . Reservation are suggested.
There is one bus that goes from Mammoth Lakes to Lancaster and back on Mo-We-Fr. And one that goes from Lone Pine to Reno and back on Mo-Tu-Th-Fr. The Southern route is South bound in the morning and the Northern route is North bound in the morning.
During the Summer there is also a 2 bus combo that goes from Merced to Mammoth Lakes. Look up YARTS @ www.yarts.com/

Re: Camping in the Eastern Sierra
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 8:59 PMWell, it's set.
Over night to Reno then down to June Lake Junction then to Oh! Ridge Campground.
I'm sending food ahead to June Lake PO to be picked up on Wednesday Sept. 23. I hope that the 2 different Rangers I spoke with are correct and there are Bear Boxes.
