Hey y'all,

How about we share some tips for hiking and preparing for the summer season.

My first tip, get those hiking shoes out or get your new ones now and start breaking them in before you go on any long hikes.

I am going on a camping bus tour of the south west national parks (Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Arches) which will include Day hikes and swimming. My concern is while I work hard physically, I haven't done any long hikes in a long time. What clothes should I wear to be most comfortable. This is embarrassing, but I am mostly concerned about pants and underwear or just my skin rubbing together that might rub my inner thigh raw and make the hike miserable. I really want to enjoy this. Any clues?

Stay away from cotton in your clothes to hike in. Cotton will soak up your sweat as you hike and it's that dampness and friction that leads to chaffing. Polyester blends are the best for wicking moisture away from your body and letting it breathe and dry quickly. Keeping your skin dry should help with the chaffing. Also, there are also products like Bodyglide (looks like deodorant and you can find it at any REI or most sporting goods stores) it's meant to help prevent chaffing and blisters. Maybe rub that on your worry spots and see if that helps.
